    Over recent years saxophonist composer Shabaka Hutchings has established himself as a central figure in the London jazz scene. Restlessly creative with a refreshingly open-minded spirit, playing and leading a variety of groups—most notably, Sons of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming, and Shabaka & the Ancestors. If you like new ideas in Jazz, this is the artist to look for.

    The Comet Is Coming jazz trio is a prime example of Hutchings pulling together influences from varied sources, some space jazz, some electronic dance music and lots of improvisation.

    He describes the group as having an “anarchist approach” to music, “In that we don’t talk about what anyone else is supposed to do,” he says, “we all just play what we think it should be”.

    Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery is the group’s second album. The first, ‘Channel The Spirits’ was shortlisted for the 2016 Mercury Prize.

    The title of the band and song titles tells you what they are bringing. Sci-fi themed dark shades, dismal funk, psych rock and a bit of cataclysmic despair. Also check out their recent EP ‘Death To The Planet’.

    The world is ending but there is nothing left to do but dance to the apocalypse!
